Rep's Hupp in the spotlight for boosting dramatic arts

With apologies to the New York improvisational group -- who would appreciate the punning if not the awkward execution of it -- the Hupp-right Citizens Brigade swarmed the Clinton Presidential Center on May 2 for the Arkansas Patron Award Gala, put on by the Argenta Community Theater board of directors. The award honors an individual whose philanthropy helps expand the arts in central Arkansas.

The Upright Citizens Brigade has welcomed sketch comedians such as Amy Poehler and Bill Hader to its shows. Arkansas Patron Award-winner Bob Hupp welcomed to his bash Arkansas politicos like Sen. Mark Pryor and his date, Joy Whitfield, Attorney General Dustin and theater board member Bobbi McDaniel, and North Little Rock Mayor Joe and Missie Smith.

Guests enjoyed dinner made by the center's staff, quips by master of ceremonies Craig O'Neill and silent and live auctions

Hupp is in his 15th year as producing artistic director of the Arkansas Repertory Theatre. He has directed 25 performances there, most recently Death of a Salesman starring Robert Walden, and Les Miserables.
