Fire chars trailer on rig, clogs I-40

Traffic on Interstate 40 in North Little Rock was stalled for several hours Friday after the trailer of an 18-wheeler went up in flames.

North Little Rock Fire Department spokesman Capt. John Pflasterer said emergency personnel responded about 3:53 p.m. to I-40 east at Galloway. The trailer, which contained pizza ingredients, caught fire after a rear brake malfunction caused a tire blowout.

The driver was not injured. Pflasterer said the trailer and its cargo were destroyed.

At least one lane of traffic was closed while the charred trailer was removed from the interstate and sanitation crews disposed of burnt pizza dough and sauce, according to Pflasterer.

The scene was cleared about 7 p.m.
