RED JACKET BALL

City Year members gather to celebrate award winner

Guests at the Red Jacket Ball entered the Little Rock Marriott to the beat of the Mabelvale Elementary Drumline on May 9. And if that wasn't enough of a entrance, City Year members in their signature red jackets cheered guests as they made their way to the second floor.

The annual gala, a benefit for City Year Little Rock, started with a cocktail hour and silent auction with music by City Year members guitarist Sam Benedict of Johnson City, Tenn., and Sandra Castor of Cave City on keyboard.

The program included remarks by corps members Georgia Handforth and Paloma Garcia, J.A. Fair High School student Britoni Jones, Gov. Mike Beebe and the evening's co-chairmen Melinda Faubel, Mica Strother and Grant Tennille.

After dinner, Arkansas AT&T President Ed Drilling received the Lifetime of Service Award. The annual award is given to a community member who displays service to a cause greater than himself, social justice and excellence in leadership.
