A man accused of gunning down his girlfriend pleaded guilty Thursday to first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison, according to a news release from Washington County Prosecuting Attorney John Threet.

Authorities said Eric Thomas Frankenhauser shot and killed 39-year-old Jessica Stewart on Aug. 5, 2012 at 2228 W. Wedington Drive.

Witnesses told police they saw Frankenhauser follow Stewart into the yard where she fell to her hands and knees. Frankenhauser reportedly approached Stewart and shot her in the head before fleeing in Stewart’s car. He was later apprehended outside Columbus, Ohio.
