ROGERS -- Rogers High outfielder Jennifer Gonzalez is going to continue her softball career at one of the most successful junior college programs in the country.

Gonzalez signed a national letter of intent Wednesday to play softball at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, Ala.

Wallace State softball won its second National Junior College Athletic Association Division I National Championship during the 2013 season after winning the title in 2008. The Lady Lions were the national runner-up in 2009 and 2010 and finished third in 2012.

Gonzalez is the Rogers leadoff hitter and she will carry a .391 batting average into the Class 7A Tournament on Friday when the Lady Mounties face Fort Smith Northside in the first round in Conway. She has scored 96 runs and has 114 hits in her career at Rogers, both of which are good for No. 2 on the career list at Rogers.

Gonzalez had several offers but the senior said Wallace State had a solid combination of academics and athletics. She is expected to stay in the outfield.

"I took a visit down there and just fell in love with the school," Gonzalez said. "I had a lot of schools ask me to visit. But they have a a great softball program and they are needing outfielders."

Gonzalez has been a three-year starter for the Lady Mounties and she played a key role last season as Rogers advanced to the Class 7A Championship game.

"Jennifer has had a great career," Rogers coach Mike Harper said. "She has been an ideal player. She has worked hard, and she has become more disciplined at the plate. She has become a complete player."
