Suns guard arrested for disorderly conduct

Former Sylvan Hills standout and current Phoenix Suns guard Archie Goodwin was arrested earlier this month outside of a west Little Rock skating rink, the Arkansas State Police said Tuesday.

Goodwin, 19, was charged May 4 with disorderly conduct and refusal to submit to arrest outside of Arkansas Skatium, according to a statement from state police spokesman Bill Sadler.

The statement said that Goodwin, who completed his rookie season with the Suns last month, was allegedly using profanity and "exhibiting aggressive gestures toward another individual exiting the facility" at about 11 p.m. May 4. The statement said a state trooper twice directed Goodwin to stop cursing. It also said that Goodwin tried to break away from the trooper during his arrest.

Goodwin, a former Arkansas Democrat-Gazette boys basketball player of the year, averaged 25 points per game and led Sylvan Hills to its first state title as a senior in 2012. One of the most sought after recruits in the country, Goodwin signed with Kentucky and led the Wildcats in scoring with an average of 14.1 points per game as a freshman in 2012-2-13.

He was taken last June in the first of the NBA Draft, No. 29 overall, by the Suns and averaged 3.7 points in 52 games as a reserve this past season.

Goodwin's initial court date is scheduled for 8 a.m. June 3 in Sherwood District Court.
