Rogers Aldermen to Review Street Project, Settlement Funding

ROGERS -- Aldermen face appropriating a considerable amount of money Tuesday on a street project, a lawsuit settlement and funding the treasurer's position.

A $3.1 million contract with J. Johnson Inc. for widening Price Lane to three lanes, underground water detention and sidewalks is scheduled for review.

"The project is on the master street plan and is a major east-west corridor between schools," said Derrel Smith, city senior planner.

The portion of Price Lane between First and Eighth streets was widened to three lanes several months ago by the city street crew. The new project calls for widening Price Lane to three lanes, with curb and gutter, from Eighth Street to Dixieland Road, Smith said. Prince Lane runs near Kirksey Middle School to near Rogers High School.

Appropriating $147,041 to fund the treasurer's position is also up for consideration. Funding the position is part settlement for the lawsuit Jerry Hudlow filed against alleging wrongful termination. A federal judge ruled last month that Hudlow should get his job back.

Aldermen also will decide on an appropriation of $318,850 to pay damages to Hudlow awarded in the same lawsuit. The damages were awarded to Hudlow as part of the settlement.

Hudlow was fired in May 2012. The judge ruled Hudlow was not dismissed in accordance with state law.

City Council is to meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Council Chambers at City Hall, 301 W. Chestnut St. Enter on the northeast side of the building.

Other agenda items include:

• Authorizing purchase of hot water pressure wash system for the Rogers Animal Shelter.

• Transfer of $730 from the animal shelter reserve fund, donated to the shelter by Petco, for the purpose of spaying and neutering adopted pets.

• Appropriating $220,000 to pay for providing police protection services for officers working extra duty.

• A $27,000 contract with ESRI Inc. for software licenses for a mapping software and $2,000 for Microsoft server licensing as a platform for the software.

• A $9,000 appropriation from ICE forfeitures to purchase upgraded electronics for interview rooms and $1,000 for a narcotics dog.

• A review of an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance grant of $20,000 to the Police Department.
