What teen is to be on Jeopardy?

GAME ON! Cooper Lair, a 15-year-old sophomore at Little Rock Christian Academy, will compete in the 2014 Jeopardy! Teen Tournament. Cooper, the son of Wendy and Craig Lair of Little Rock, is the third Arkansas teen ever to be selected for the tournament. His appearance follows that of Leonard Cooper, a student from eStem High Public Charter School in Little Rock, who, then 17, won the 2013 teen competition. This year's tournament is to air at 2 p.m. July 21-Aug. 1 on KATV, Channel 7.

BARKING UP A LOCAL TREE: Speaking of stars, Jason and Tria Loyd of Beebe, who breed and sell Akita dogs, have seen several Hollywood celebrities come calling in recent months. In January, British actor Henry Cavill (star of Man of Steel, mentioned above) and his girlfriend, actress and former mixed martial artist Gina Carano (Fast and Furious 6, Haywire), traveled to Arkansas to buy his puppy from the Loyds. And last fall, David and Tamela Mann, stars of the TV show Meet the Browns, met the Loyds halfway between their home and Arkansas to pick up their puppy. How did the stars find the Loyds? Through their website, bigbearakitas.com. Their dogs sell for between $1,000 and $1,250 for companion puppies, while those that can be used for breeding/show dogs sell for $1,500 to $1,800. Cavill and the Manns were just in the market for pets, Jason Loyd tells Paper Trails.

SHOWING OUT: The King Biscuit Time radio show, airing weekdays at 12:15 p.m. on KFFA-AM, 1360, will soon have new bragging rights -- this Tuesday will mark the Helena-West Helena-based blues music show's 17,000th broadcast. For the occasion, special guests Reba Russell and Bobby Rush will join longtime host "Sunshine" Sonny Payne, who's been broadcasting from the Delta Cultural Center for more than a decade. The show first aired in November 1941. Those who miss the landmark broadcast can catch it later online at kffa.com

IN LIEU OF FLOWERS: A recent obituary in this paper for El Paso resident Carroll J. Smith, 84, who died May 6, suggested that memorial contributions be made to Robert and Christina Chambers, 1544 El Paso Road, El Paso, Ark., 72045, who lost everything in the April 27 tornado and "who Mr. Smith would love to help."
