2A-NORTH REGION

WALNUT RIDGE 3, EAST POINSETT CO. 1

Luke Wall allowed 1 run on 4 hits while walking 6 and striking out 8 as the Bobcats outlasted the Warriors to advance to Monday night’s final.

EPC had a chance for a huge inning in the second with the bases loaded and only one out, but Wall escaped the jam and went on to earn the complete-game victory.

Walnut Ridge scored first in the bottom of the fourth when Layne Kennedy scored on a single by Baron Estes. Walnut Ridge added two more runs in the fifth when Cash Lee scored on a single by Martin Crisler who later crossed the plate.

EPC got its lone run in the top of the fifth when Clay Malone drove in Aaron Scales with a two-out single.

Freshman Chanc Gray pitched a complete game for EPC, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out 3 and walking 5. EPC (19-11) left 10 runners on base.

MARKED TREE 10, MCCRORY 9

Trailing 8-3, Marked Tree scored six runs in the sixth inning to take a 9-8 lead. McCrory tied the game at 9-9 in the top of the seventh but Marked Tree’s Baily Gilbert scored in the bottom of the seventh on a wild pitch by reliever Conner Beam.

Blake Daniels hit a grand slam to left-center field in the sixth to score Thomas Malone, Brody McCrary and Hunter Pitts. Daniels also doubled off the wall in the fifth to score McCrary. Daniels started the game for Marked Tree, giving up 8 runs in 4 innings before giving way to Malone who pitched the final 3 innings. Malone allowed 3 hits, 1 run and had 3 strikeouts. Blake Hicks started for McCrory allowing 9 runs on 9 hits and walking 4 before giving way in the ninth to Beam who took the loss. Dustin Holland scored three runs for McCrory.

2A-EAST REGION

ABUNDANT LIFE 8, POYEN 3

Abudant Life (7-12) continued its late-season surge in advancing to the regional championship game by dropping Poyen (10-14). The Owls got a complete game from junior Sam Schroeder, who struck out three batters while allowing five hits. The Owls were ahead 2-0 in the third inning when they scored three more, two off the bat of Caleb Towler, who drove in Aaron Ngo and Joey Bond to put them ahead 5-0. Jace Phillips took the loss for Poyen.

PALESTINE-WHEATLEY 7, CARLISLE 0

After pitching the final two innings for a save in Palestine-Wheatley’s tournament-opening victory against Mount Ida, Jacob Jumper threw seven shutout innings to earn the victory for the Patriots against Carlisle (8-11). Palestine-Wheatley (23-6) scored in the first inning when Corbitt Cooper’s sacrifice to left field to score Dellan Parkman. The Patriots blew the game open with a six-run third inning that was highlighted by Jumper’s single before Hunter Parson’s two-run double.

1A REGION 1

SCRANTON 16, COUNTY LINE 2

The Rockets had another big offensive day at the regional, scoring 16 times on 12 hits in a game that went just 4 1/2 innings. The Rockets scored 12 of their runs on 9 hits in the first 2 innings and the Indians never recovered.

Cory White and Colton Horn each had three hits for the Rockets while Aaron Oldham had two. Oldham and White each had three RBI while Mason Koch had two. County Line had just four hits in the contest and scored both of its runs in the top of the third.

1A REGION 2

NORFORK 7, VIOLA 2

Brendan Casey hit a three-run home run to cap a five-run fifth-inning rally that propelled the Panthers to an upset of the top-seeded Longhorns.

Norfork (11-7) will face Armorel for the regional title at 2:30 p.m. Monday, while Viola (24-6) battles Bay in the third-place game at noon.

The Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run single by Logan Gray, but Viola tied the game in the third with an RBI ground out by Lane Guffey and a Norfork error.

Norfork surged ahead in the fifth on RBI singles by Riley Rhymer and Gray, and Casey’s three-run home run to left gave the Panthers a five-run advantage.

Creed Chapman tossed four innings to earn the victory for Norfork. One day after pitching a complete-game victory over Ridgefield Christian, Zane Harris worked the final three innings to earn a save for the Panthers. Dalton Lund took the loss for Viola.

Gray was 3 for 4 with three RBI for Norfork and Casey finished 2 for 4.

ARMOREL 2, BAY 0

The Tigers scored once in the fourth and once in the sixth, and pitcher Dallas Nicholson struck out 12 batters to lead Armorel to the championship game.

Nicholson, who allowed just one hit, also doubled and scored a run. Nolan Smith took the loss for the Yellowjackets.
