Jonesboro Westside took advantage of a rash of mistakes by Southside Batesville in the seventh inning Friday, scoring nine runs — including three on passed balls — to pull away for a victory in the opening round of the 4A East tournament in Lonoke.

ABUNDANT LIFE 4, HAZEN 2
Michael Dixon pitched Abundant Life to a victory over Hazen in the first round of the Class 2A East Region on Friday afternoon in Palestine. Dixon, who overcame some early struggles, finished with 10 strikeouts as the Owls, a No. 4 seed, qualified for next week’s state tournament.
CLASS 2A SOFTBALL
MARMADUKE 21, PANGBURN 2
Marmaduke is going to the Class 2A state tournament for the first time after defeating Pangburn 21-2 on Friday in Lepanto in the first round of the 2A-North tournament. Marmaduke was 0-5 in its previous five trips to the regionals.
