UA names Key as associate vice president of university relations

State Sen. Johnny Key will be the new associate vice president of university relations for the University of Arkansas System, university officials announced Wednesday.

A university news release states that Key was named to the position Wednesday by system president Donald Bobbitt.

Key will assist Melissa Rust, vice president for university relations, in the coordination of the government relations efforts of the 18 campuses, units and divisions of the system, according to the release.

Key’s start date is still to be decided and will follow the conclusion of his service in the Arkansas Senate, the release states.

Key was elected into the Arkansas Senate in 2008, representing portions of Baxter, Boone and Marion counties, and has served as the chairman of the Senate Education Committee and vice chairman of the Joint Budget Committee, the release states. Key has also served as vice chairman of the Education Standing Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures.
