Softball: Rogers High Shuts Out Siloam Springs

SILOAM SPRINGS -- The middle of the Rogers High lineup did the bulk of the damage Tuesday against Siloam Springs.

Chandler Little, Haylee Zimmerman and Maddie Massanelli combined for seven RBIs and the Lady Mounties defeated the Lady Panthers 10-0 in five innings at La-Z-Boy Sports Complex.

Rogers can clinch the third seed from the 7A-West Conference on Thursday with a win at Rogers Heritage, but coach Mike Harper said the Lady Mounties will have to show more spark than they did on Tuesday against Siloam Springs.

"If we come out and play Thursday like we did today we're going to get beat," Harper said. "We've got to be better."

Massanelli had an RBI hit in the first inning off Siloam Springs starter Leslie Perry, who was effective in keeping the Lady Mounties off balance early with a slower pace to her pitches.

The Lady Mounties (14-10, 9-4 7A/6A-West) scored two runs in the first and two more in the third to lead 4-0. Massanelli had a two-run double as part of a three-run fourth inning to go up 7-0.

Little had an RBI single and Zimmerman followed with a two-run single as Rogers went ahead 10-0 in the top of the fifth.

Little finished the game 4-for-4, while Massanelli had two hits.

"You just have to be disciplined at the plate, which we were later in the game," Harper said. "But you've got to be like that at the beginning of the game."

Zimmerman, meanwhile, pitched a complete game shutout and only allowed three Siloam Springs (8-20, 0-13) hits. Haley Littlejohn, Morgan Curtis and Ally Bunch each had singles for Siloam Springs, which was celebrating senior night.

"I thought we played hard," Siloam Springs coach Scott Wright said. "Just a couple of errors there and this could have been pretty tight to the finish. We had a couple of plays there that could've ended innings, and they ended up piling on some runs there with two outs. Had we not allowed that, we would have been right there."

Rogers plays at Rogers Heritage on Thursday, while Siloam Springs travels to Van Buren today for its final conference game. The game was moved up from Thursday because of the threat of inclement weather.
