GOLF Lady Reddies tied for second in regional

Henderson State’s women shot a 314 in Monday’s second round of the NCAA Division II Central Regional in Lake Elmo, Minn., and is tied for second with Augustana College.

The Lady Reddies have a score of 617 through two rounds and trail Central Oklahoma by 15 strokes. Arkansas Tech is fourth at 619.

Rebecka Surtevall of Arkansas Tech is tied for second with Allie Ostrander of Augustana at 148. After shooting a 71 in the first round, Surtevall shot a 77 in the second round. Taylor Neidy of Central Oklahoma leads with 144. Kendall Earp and Katie Kilponen of Henderson State are tied for fourth at 152. Ally Harris of Henderson State and Taylor Kline of Arkansas Tech are tied for eighth at 154.

Brittany Marquez of Harding is tied for 22nd at 159.

Henderson men fourth at NCAA regional

Henderson State shot a 295 in Monday’s first round of the NCAA Division II Central/Midwest Regional at Fox Run Golf Club in Eureka, Mo.

The Reddies are tied with Lindenwood College. Malone leads with a 291 while Grand Valley State is second at 292. Arkansas Tech is 16th at 305.

Brice Howard of Henderson State is tied for fourth with a 70. Jason Purdy of Arkansas Tech is tied for 16th at 73.

BASEBALL Arkansas-Monticello stays alive in GAC Tournament

No. 2 seed Arkansas-Monticello defeated Ouachita Baptist 12-6 Monday in the Great American Conference Tournament at Enid, Okla.

Trailing 6-3 entering the sixth inning, the Boll Weevils (35-14) sent 10 men to the plate and scored six runs to take the lead.

Arkansas Tech (42-10) lost 6-5 to Southern Arkansas on Monday afternoon and was eliminated from the tournament.

Trevor Rucker had an RBI double in the ninth inning to lift the Muleriders (37-17) to the today’s championship game against Harding (28-23) at noon.

The Wonder Boys tied the game in the top of the ninth when Rafiel Johnson singled up the middle to score James Sharp.

The game ended with a confrontation between players from both teams in which no punches were thrown and no ejections were made. The GAC reprimanded two players from Southern Arkansas and one from Arkansas Tech.

In the late game, Arkansas Monticello defeated Harding 7-1 behind a grand slam by Bronson Gillam.

Arkansas-Monticello will play the winner between Harding and Southern Arkansas at 3:30 p.m. today.

UCA’s Biggerstaff honored

Central Arkansas right-hander Bryce Biggerstaff was named the Southland Conference pitcher of the week Monday after leading the Bears to a 2-1, extra-inning victory over Oral Roberts on Friday in Conway.

Biggerstaff, a senior, threw all 10 innings, allowing 10 hits (all singles), but only 1 earned run, striking out 6 and walking none. It was his second 10-inning outing in his past three starts and second complete game of the season.

Biggerstaff is 4-5 with a 3.38 ERA this season.
