Travs win after 5 hours, 15 innings

SPRINGDALE - The Arkansas Travelers’ game Saturday night against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals ran over into Sunday morning.

Arkansas finally won 5-4 in 15 innings when Cam Bedrosian ended the game by getting Jared Schlehuber on a ground out to third base at 12:10 a.m.

The game, played before an announced crowd of 5,941 at Arvest Ballpark, took 5 hours and 4 minutes.

Kaleb Cowart hit home run off Noel Arguelles leading off the 15th to put the Travs ahead 5-4.

Travs cleanup hitter Brian Hernandez delivered a two out single to score Kyle Hudson from second in the top of the 14th and put Arkansas ahead 4-3. Hudson led off the inning with a single and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Alex Yarbrough.

Northwest Arkansas tied it 4-4 in the bottom of the 14th when Mark Threlkeld scored from third on a wild pitch by Bedrosian with two outs and an 0-2 count on Ethan Chatman. Threlkeld lead off the inning with a walk, went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Angel Franco and advanced to third on a wild pitch.

The Travs tied it 3-3 with three runs in sixth inning. They hit five consecutive one-out singles - by Hernandez, Cowart, De La Rosa, Melker and Albitz - to tie the game against Naturals reliever Greg Billo.

Northwest Arkansas starter Sam Selman pitched five scoreless innings, holding the Travs to 2 hits and 1 walk with5 strikeouts.

Whit Merrifield hit his third home run of the season to put the Naturals ahead 3-0 in the fourth inning.

The Naturals took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on Jorge Bonifacio’s two-run double that scored Trapp, who hit a lead off double, and Adams, who had walked.

The Naturals got the go ahead run on base in the seventh, eight, ninth 10th and 13th innings but kept stranding runners.

Northwest Arkansas center fielder Lane Adams advanced to third with one out in the 10th - after hitting a single, stealing second and advancing on a ground out - but R.J. Alvarez struck out Cheslor Cuthbert and retired Jared Schlehuber on a fly out.

Anderson De La Rosa hit a one-out double in the 10th for the Travs, but Cody Fassold struck out Adam Melker and Vance Albitz swinging to end the threat.

The Naturals put runners on first and second in the 13th.
