HARRISON - The Harrison School Board, at its last meeting, adopted a resolution to the effect that the board disapproves of dancing on the part of the teachers during the school term. This action is the result of a long agitation over the question. It was stated by one member of the board that this action was not aimed at dancing itself, but was believed to be for the best interest of the schools because attendance at dances by teachers tends to interfere with their school work.

CAMDEN - Though he has received a few calls from irate mothers, Ouachita County Sheriff Jack Dews still stands behind his decision that minors must show identification to buy certain music. “I’ve had only two negative calls from ladies who felt their children should be able to listen to what they want to,” Dews said Tuesday. “They said that their children don’t listen to the words, they listen to the music. I bet if they sat down and listened to the words, they would change their minds.” As of Friday, Camden music dealers are required to check the identification of customers who want to purchase music with explicit lyrics. Last week, Dews visited Cure the Blues - a Camden record store - and confiscated tapes that included “Life is… Too Short” by the rap group Too Short, and works by the rock group Guns ‘N Roses and rap performers Gucci Crew II and King T.

BENTONVILLE - Vice President Dick Cheney used a visit to a Wal-Mart Stores Inc. distribution center Monday to salute the company’s contributions to the national economy and to tout the Bush administration’s record on jobs. Cheney, accompanied by his wife, Lynne, spoke to an enthusiastic audience of about 800 Wal-Mart workers. His office designated the speech an administration event, not a campaign rally.
