1 dead, 1 injured after crash on I-40

A Texas man was killed Thursday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 40 in Johnson County, state police reported.

James Baxter, 71, was driving an 18-wheeler east on the interstate about 9:30 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a turn at the 48-mile marker. The vehicle overturned after striking a median barrier. Baxter, of Henderson, Texas, was partially ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the vehicle, 60-year-old Lynn Martinez, was injured in the crash. She was taken to Johnson County Regional Hospital in Clarksville for treatment.

Conditions were clear and dry when the crash occurred, according to state police.
