GOLF Dixon, Granata put away ASGA Four-Ball

Springdale’s Scott Dixon and Brett Granata followed their first-round, 8-under 64 Saturday on the Park Course with a 4-under 68 Sunday on the Arlington Course, posting a 12-under 132 and winning the 29th annual Arkansas State Golf Association Men’s Four-Ball by four strokes at Hot Springs Country Club.

White Hall’s Wes McNulty and Little Rock’s Chris Jenkins finished tied for second, four shots back, along with Texarkana’s Brian Pope and Benton’s Blake Young, who shot a 6-under 66 to move from ninth place.

SOFTBALL Texas A&M tops Arkansas

Texas A&M scored in four of the first five innings and beat Arkansas 11-7 on Sunday in Fayetteville. Amber Garza hit a home run and drove in six runs for the Aggies (26-9, 7-5), who scored 3 runs in the first, 3 in the third, 4 in the fourth and 1 in the fifth. Jayme Gee hit a two-run home run and Stephanie Canfield hit a two-run triple in a five-run second inning for Arkansas (23-14, 2-7).

UCA completes sweep

Briana Whisenhunt hit an RBI double in the first inning and drove in another in the second to help Central Arkansas to a 5-0 victory that completed a series sweep of Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday in Conway. Whisenhunt’s single in the first was followed by Taylor Dear’s two-run single, and Jessie Taylor added an RBI in the second inning to put the Bears (17-21, 7-4 Southland Conference) up 5-0. Kylee Studioso struck out 11 and held Southeastern Louisiana (9-15, 3-9) to two hits in the complete-game shutout.

BASEBALL Hendrix completes sweep of No. 3 Trinity

Austin Womack’s sacrifice bunt scored Zach Crenshaw in the eighth inning, and Justin Mosbey pitched a perfect ninth to help Hendrix to a 5-4 victory over NCAA Division III No. 3 Trinity (Texas) to complete a three-game sweep on Sunday in Conway. Collin Radack, Seth Mobley, Wyatt Hogan and Logan Hiatt each had two hits for the Warriors, while Radack scored two runs and Womack drove in two runs. Mosbey held Trinity hitless for three innings to earn his first victory of the season.

GOLF Kvarnstrom third after Round 1

UALR’s Sofie Kvarnstrom is tied for third after shooting a 1-over-par 73 in the opening round of the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate at Eagle’s Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Ga., on Sunday. She will enter today’s second round two shots off the lead. UALR is 11th out of 16 teams with a 324. Host Georgia State leads the field with a 300, while Campbell and Troy are tied for second at 304.
