"This is the first time I've ever won a full marathon," Pillow said. "I've won my age group before, but this is my first overall win so that's fun.

"The Red Coyote Coyote running store in Oklahoma City, Jon and Burke Beck are the owners and they do a lot to support us runners who try to run fast."

Cooper runs five or six full marathons in a year and was participating in the Hogeye for the first time this year. Like Pillow and fellow Red Coyote Running member Russell Ingram, who finished second in the male full marathon with a time of 2:51:22, Sunday's race was preparation for the upcoming Boston Marathon.

"I thought this would be a good run before Boston," Cooper said. "It wasn't bad out there. It was a little warm near the end and I like running in the wind. And there's definitely more hills here than in Oklahoma."

While the Red Coyote runners took the Hogeye Marathon by storm, that wasn't exactly the plan entering the day.

"It was really inadvertent," Ingram said. "Jonathan and I rode up together (Saturday) night, and we didn't even know about Beth coming. So that's pretty neat."

The day didn't come and go without a share of surprises and new records. During the half marathon, J.D. Adams of Fayetteville added a new twist to this year's Hogeye when he proposed to Allison Evans of Rogers, who was crossing the finish line.

Adams held out a sign reading "Allison, Will You Marry Me?" and dropped to a knee. Evans said yes.

"I couldn't believe it," Evans said. "I was so happy. He put another sign up close to the finish line and I was just hoping it wasn't a different Allison.

"It definitely made the last 1.1 miles of the race go a lot faster."

The female half marathon winner, Pauline Allen, 44, of Fayetteville, ran a blistering time of 1:26:54, on Sunday. Allen, who ran cross country at Arkansas from 1989-92, set a new master's division state record with her mark at the 38th Hogeye.

"I like the course," said Allen, who trains with GPP Fitness in Rogers. "I run well on the rolling hills.

"This is my own record, and I definitely set goals out there. And I wanted to do well today, with this being my home race."

Phil Davison, 31, of North Little Rock, won the male half marathon with a time of 1:25:36.

In the 5K race, 16-year old Brody Hill of Bentonville won with a time of 17:55.49. Julianna Chalmers, 28, of Rogers, won the women's 5K with a mark of 25:32.90.
