SOFTBALL UCA overpowers SE Louisiana

Central Arkansas (16-21, 6-4 Southland) hit five home runs in the first game and finished a doubleheader sweep of Southeastern Louisiana (9-14, 3-8) on Saturday in Conway. UCA won the first game 15-7 and the second 3-0.

Sam Forrest hit a home run in the first inning, Hayley Parker and Amy Gunnels each hit homers in the second, while Hannah Stirton’s grand slam came in the middle of a 10-run third inning. Ashley Boswell hit a home run in the sixth inning.

Jesse Taylor hit a two-run home run in a three-run fifth in the second game, while Kylee Studioso had 15 strikeouts in a complete-game shutout.

Harding backed by seven home runs

Courtney Derrick led off the second game of a doubleheader with a home run, Amanda Berdon hit two homers and Harding hit seven homers as a team in a 13-9 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday in Alva, Okla.

The Bisons (21-18, 13-13 Great American Conference) lost the first game 6-4 in eight innings before their second-game outburst.

Kinsey Beck, Carolyn Clayton, Kimmy Hendricks and Courtney Chambers also hit home runs for Harding in the second game as the Bisons totaled 13 hits.

BASEBALL Harding blows out NW Oklahoma

Harding scored in five consecutive innings of an 11-4 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday in Searcy.

Trent Wooldridge, Erin McCarver and James Anderson each had three hits for the Bisons (17-13, 9-7), who trailed 3-0 after two innings. Harding scored four runs in the third, two in the fourth, three in the fifth, one in the sixth and one in the seventh.GOLF Springdale pair leads ASGA Four-Ball

Steven Dixon and Brett Granata, both of Springdale, shot a 8-under-par 64 Saturday in the first round of the Arkansas State Golf Association Four-Ball Tournament on the Park Course at Hot Springs Country Club.

Dixon and Granata had a 5-under 31 after the front nine before playing the back side at 3 under.

Three shots behind them are the teams of John David Lindsey of Fayetteville and Matt Watts of Rogers and Frank Ramey and Stan Payne of Little Rock.

Three teams, including Chris Jenkins of Little Rock and Wes McNulty of White Hall, are four shots back heading into today’s final round.
