ATHLETICS Hendrix to induct five

Five new members will be inducted into the Hendrix College Sports of Honor during a banquet April 4 in Conway.

Wes Crawford, John Kane, Millard Williams “Dub” Phillips, Frank Poff and Kim Ralston Kelley will be inducted during an on-campus banquet at 6 p.m.

Crawford, from Blytheville, lettered in basketball and track and field in 1961-1965, leading the Warriors’ basketball team to the NAIA district playoffs in each of his four seasons. Kane set the Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference record in the 200-meter breaststroke as a freshman in 1973, then set a new record in 1974 and again in 1975.

Phillips helped the school’s track and field team win the 1937 state championship as a pole vaulter, setting a state record at 13 feet, 6 inches.

Poff helped the Hendrix swimming and diving team win AIC championships in 1977, 1978 and 1979, being named an all-AIC selection in all three years. He was an NAIA national qualifier in 1978 and 1979 and was a three-year member of the water polo team.

Kelley was a second-team All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference selection in basketball in 1994-1995.
