Elizabeth Sellars

Where I live: I live in the heart of Hillcrest in a classic “Airplane Bungalow” built by Little Rock builder K.E.N. Cole in 1920. Cole began building “spec” houses in Hillcrest in 1916. It has been beautifully maintained over the years, with the prior owners preserving many of the historic details.

Occupation: I am a geneticist at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

My favorite space is: My living room, which contains antiques from my grandmother as well as more modern pieces I have added.

Why? I love many things about this long room. It has lovely and large windows that let in morning light and let me watch the ample street traffic. It has a very wide arch to the dining room, making this space feel open and flow nicely for entertaining. When I moved in, it was already painted a warm chocolate color that I adore. It is where I gather with friends and family to entertain, snack, watch movies and visit. The room is the perfect size - large enough to hold a decent crowd yet cozy and inviting. And, before now, I have never had space for a full-size sofa.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: I have a beautiful nonworking fireplace. I would love to put in vent-free gas logs to add some warmth for the room.
