Wetzler's two-out, run-scoring single in the bottom of the first gave Heritage (6-2) the only run it would need. The senior added a two-run homer in the third inning.

Wetzler (2-0) allowed no runs on three hits over seven innings against Berkeley Prep of Tampa, Fla. He struck out four and walked two.

Dalton McKaughan also enjoyed a solid day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Rogers High 3, West Linn, Ore., 2

PHOENIX -- Rogers High pitcher Nolan Farnan scattered six hits and collected nine strikeouts in route to a complete-game victory for the Mounties over West Linn, Ore., Thursday in the Coach Bob Invitational baseball tournament.

Rogers, who finished third in Pool A of the tournament's All-Star Division, defeated West Linn, which finished third in Pool B, in the final game of the invitational for both teams. The Mounties, 6-4 overall, finished 2-2 in the Coach Bob tournament.

Farnan gave up only one earned run in seven innings of work. He didn't walk a batter but did hit two.

Rogers fell behind 1-0 in the top of the second but evened things in the bottom of the inning when Brett Gentz led off with a single. Carter Forbis reached on an error, and Gentz ended up at third. After an out, Bryce Bray drove in Gentz with a sacrifice fly.

West Linn took the lead 2-1 in the third, but Gentz again got the Mounties on the board in the fourth when he tripled and scored on a Forbis single.

Rogers got the game winner in the fifth when Derek Sallee singled, Sage White walked and Timmy Seldomridge singled to load the bases with no outs. Zach Arrick's fielder's choice scored Zach Hall, who was running for Sallee, for a 3-2 Rogers lead.

Farnan worked out of a two-on, one-out jam in the top of the sixth with consecutive strikeouts and then retired the side in order in the seventh for the win.

Rogers returns to 7A/6A-West action Tuesday with a conference doubleheader at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Fayetteville.
