NWA Fishing Report

Beaver Lake: The buzz word is walleye this week on the upstream end of Beaver Lake.

Aaron Jolliff at Hook, Line and Sinker said walleye are biting up the White and War Eagle tributaries on shad-imitating lures such as shad-colored crank baits, grubs or Sassy Shads. Trolling or casting are both effective.

A few white bass have been caught in the White River arm, but the white bass run hasn't kicked in yet, Jolliff said. Some whites have been caught in the back of the Prairie Creek arm.

Black bass are biting jerk baits or crawdad-colored crank baits. A few have been caught with spinner baits. Bass fishing is best in the midlake area.

Crappie are biting small shad-colored grubs or tube baits 10 feet deep or less around timber.

Average water temperature is 44 to 46 degrees.

Jason Piper at J.T. Crappie Guide Services said crappie fishing is best up the the White or War Eagle tributaries. Use minnows, tube baits or grubs under a float 2 to 4 feet deep around timber.

On the main lake, look for crappie to be suspended 2 to 6 feet deep over water about 20 feet deep. Try near docks or along bluffs. Good areas to fish include U.S. 412 bridge area, Monte Ne and Eden's Bluff.

Garland Villines at Hickory Creek Marina said the lake is muddy in the Hickory Creek area. Crappie fishing is slow. There's been little fishing activity.

Beaver Tailwater: Carl Caso at the Beaver Dam Store said trout are biting chartreuse or yellow Power Bait. The top lures are small Colorado spoons. Power generation has been heavy, but is slacking off.

Walleye are biting "here and there" in the Houseman Access area, Caso said. Drift-fish with minnows or nightcrawlers.

Lake Fayetteville: Dolly Black at Lake Fayetteville boat dock said fishing is slow, but crappie can be caught with jigs or minnows. Crappie anglers occasionally catch black bass as well.

Catfish are biting nightcrawlers.

Lake Sequoyah: Mike McBride at Lake Sequoyah bait shop said crappie are biting jigs or minnows 5 to 10 feet deep. Black bass to 5 pounds have been caught with jig and pigs or spinner baits. Catfish are biting liver or worms.

Lake Elmdale: Lucky Key at Duck Camp Fishing Retreat said bluegill are biting 6 to 8 feet deep on small jigs tipped with a piece of red worm fished under a bobber. Try jerk baits for black bass.

Prairie Grove Lake: Dennis Kruse said crappie were caught last weekend on minnows 12 feet deep. Use plastic worms or jerk baits for black bass.

The lake is open Saturdays and Sundays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Swepco Lake: Kenny Stroud in Siloam Springs said black bass are biting soft-plastics or Rat-L-Traps. Anglers are catching good numbers of fish, but not a lot of big bass, he said.

Bella Vista: Harvey Horne at Hook, Line and Sinker in Bella Vista said black bass are biting at Loch Lomond and Lake Windsor on jerk baits, swim baits or Alabama rigs.

The heated dock at Lake Avalon is the place to fish for bluegill with nightcrawlers or worms.

At Lake Brittany, trout are biting Power Bait and small spoons. Black bass are biting jerk baits.

Upper Table Rock Lake: Aaron Jolliff at Hook, Line and Sinker in Rogers said black bass are biting crank baits or Alabama rigs.

Eastern Oklahoma: Kenny Stroud in Siloam Springs said black bass at Lake Eucha are biting jerk baits, jigs or Alabama rigs. Crappie are biting near the dam 10 to 12 feet deep.

The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation reports good largemouth bass fishing at Grand Lake with Alabama rigs or jerk baits fished along points.
