GYMNASTICS Arkansas seeded third in regional

Arkansas has been seeded third in the NCAA Fayetteville Regional April 5 at Barnhill Arena in Fayetteville. Arkansas was seeded No. 3 in a regional that includes No. 1 Utah, No. 2 UCLA, No. 4 Arizona State, No. 5 Utah State and No. 6 UC Davis. In addition, 14 individual competitors will be joining the field from Missouri, Texas Women’s University, Illinois State, Northern Illinois, Southeast Missouri State and Illinois-Chicago. The meet will feature six rotations in the following order: vault, bars, beam and floor exercise. The top two teams and top finishers on all events that are not on top-two teams will advance to the NCAA Gymnastics Championships on April 18.

BASEBALL UALR doubleheader postponed

UALR’s doubleheader at Missouri today has been rescheduled for May 6 because of cold temperatures in Columbia, Mo. The Trojans will resume Sun Belt Conference play at Louisiana-Monroe at 6 p.m. Friday.

UCA’s Treece honored by Southland

Central Arkansas shortstop Justin Treece was named Southland Conference hitter of the week after leading the Bears to a 5-0 record last week. Treece hit .556, going 10 for 18 in five games. He had two 3-RBI games and scored two runs three times. He scored 7 runs and had 6 RBI, walked 3 times and did not strikeout.

SAU’s Rucker, Henderson’s Lorance honored

Southern Arkansas’ left fielder Trevor Rucker and Henderson State pitcher Colton Lorance were named player of the week and pitcher of the week by the Great American Conference. Rucker went 7 for 14 with 10 RBI and scored 4 runs in four games, including his first career home run, a three-run shot in the Muleriders’ 12-2 victory over Arkansas Tech Friday. Lorance pitched 7 innings, allowed 3 hits and retired 11 consecutive batters with 6 strikeouts and gave up 1 run in the series opener against Northwestern Oklahoma State.

Arkansas Baptist splits with NW Mississippi

Justin Vincent struck out six and allowed two hits as Arkansas Baptist won the second game of a doubleheader with Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia, Miss., on Monday afternoon.

Northwest Mississippi won the first game, 18-8. Arkansas Baptist won the second game, 5-0.

Vincent (3-1) walked one in his complete-game victory. Dontrell Brown drove in two runs while Connor Anderson and Dylon Wooten each had two hits.

Wooten hit a home run in the first game for the Buffaloes (18-9) while Anderson had two hits. Jace Powers (3-2) took the loss.GOLF

La.-Monroe leads UALR/First Tee Classic

Louisiana-Monroe leads after the first two rounds of the UALR/ First Tee Classic for men at the Chenal Country Club Bear Den Course in Little Rock with a 584.

Louisiana-Monroe shot a 287 in the first round and a 297 in the second and leads McNeese State by two strokes.

Arkansas State is in seventh place with a 603 (303-300), while UALR is ninth at 606 (302-304).

Missouri State’s Nick Langley leads with a 141 (72-69), while Albert Miner (72-70) of Sam Houston State is tied for second with UALR’s Noah Tullas (71-71) at 142. Arkansas State’s top player is Chance Holden, who is tied for 11th at 147 (71-76).

UCA women seventh

The Central Arkansas women are in seventh place, Arkansas State is ninth and UALR is 10th after two rounds of the UALR Women’s Golf Classic at Diamante Golf Club in Hot Springs Village.

The Sugar Bears shot a 627 (324-303) through the first two rounds. Arkansas State is ninth at 632 (320-312) and UALR is 10th at 633 (318-315).

Wichita State and Middle Tennessee lead with a 617 by one stroke over Georgia State and two over Oral Roberts.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Vanessa Johnson leads the individual standings with a 145 (74-71). Central Arkansas’ Sarah Brown (77-73) is tied for second with South Alabama’s Elisa Axelsen (73-77) at 150.

Arkansas State’s Courtney Manning is tied for 22nd at 156 (81-75). Sofia Berg of UALR is tied for 31st at 158 (80-78).

UCA’s Angles in fifth place

Central Arkansas’ Pep Angles shot a second-round 67 and is tied for fifth overall after one round at the UTSA/Lone Star Invitational at the Briggs Ranch Club in San Antonio.

New Mexico leads with a 563, while Purdue is second at 572. The Bears are tied for seventh at 583.

VOLLEYBALL Lyon signs Rogers’ Champlin

Rosemary Champlin of Rogers has signed a letter of intent to play at Lyon College. Champlin was a defensive specialist this past season with 23 aces, 2.2 serves per game, 283 digs and 125 assists. In 2012, she had 20 aces, averaged 2.0 serves per game with 301 digs.

Glen Rose’s Wright leads Arkansas girls

Glen Rose’s Aimee Wright won the 143-pound weight class in the high school division at the War of the Roses Southern Region Championship over the weekend in Norman, Okla. Wright, 17, won all four of her matches, beating Samantha Lopez of Texas by pin at 1:11 in the final. Wright, who won two matches against boys at the Arkansas High School Wrestling Championship last month, beat Mikey Chandler (Okla.) 9-1, Gabby Baggiani (Okla.) 5-0 and Airam Trevino (Okla.) 9-5 before beating Lopez in the final. Mysti Kirkpatrick, 17, of Little Rock Central, took second at 112 pounds, Carson Matthews, 15, of Greenbrier placed second at 125 and Sheridan’s Ally Reed, 16, took third at 130 pounds, pinning Jasmine Scott of Texas for her victory. Arkansas competed against girls from Oklahoma, Missouri,Texas, Kansas, New Mexico and Colorado.
