Public Viewpoint: Speeders Endanger Those Around Them

I live in the old Banks Addition between Arkansas 102 and the old fairgrounds. Every day we have cars speeding down the 200 and 100 blocks of Southeast 11th, 12th and 13th streets avoiding the traffic backed up on Arkansas 102. These cars also run the stop signs in the neighborhood and have no regard for the safety of our children and elderly who live here.

Then we have the race track here beside my house known as Southeast Benton Street where cars go as fast as 60 and 70 mph. Yes, I know how to pace a car to tell the speed. This is not an exaggeration!

We love our little neighborhood and the people who live in it. We have called the police, but they cannot be everywhere all the time. However if the police were to sit around here at various times from 4:30 to about 6:30, they would make quite a haul on tickets for speeding, running stop signs and definitely reckless driving. Our next step is to set up cameras and film the running of stop signs and turn it over to the local news. Please, the life you save just might be your own. Slow down!
