Ozark Regional Transit Offers Free Bus Rides During Spring Break

Northwest Arkansas residents can ride the bus for free this week, according to an Ozark Regional Transit news release.

"The whole purpose of this is to give back to the community," said Jeff Hatley, transit spokesman and mobility manager.

The free fares continue through Friday. Spring break week is among a few times each year the public transportation service offers free rides, Hatley said. The transit offers about four weeks worth of free fare over the year. The next week of free fares will be in June, he said.

Transit officials hope free fares will encourage people to get out more in the community and enjoy springtime events, according to the release. The free fares do not include para-transit services, Hatley said.

The nonprofit transportation system has three fixed bus routes in Fayetteville, three in Springdale, two in Rogers and one in Bentonville. More information is available by calling 479-756-5901 or at the transit website, www.ozark.org.
