Three Injured In Vehicle Accident In Goshen

A two-vehicle accident in Goshen on Sunday morning sent two people and a state representative's son to the hospital, said David Edwards, Goshen's marshal.

State Rep. Bob Ballinger, R-Hindsville, was driving a pickup with his four children toward Fayetteville on Arkansas 45, or West Bowen Boulevard, when a Ford Focus pulled out from Habberton Road and the vehicles collided. The impact was severe, Ballinger said.

"It was pretty bad," Ballinger said Sunday. "We're a little banged up, but we're OK."

The female driver of the Ford Focus was airlifted to a hospital in Springfield, Mo., Ballinger said. A female passenger from the Focus was transported to the same hospital by ambulance, Edwards said. Ballinger's oldest son, Bob Ballinger Jr., 20, was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville.

At about 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Ballinger's son was in surgery to repair his fractured jaw, Ballinger said.

All names, ages and conditions of those injured in the accident were not available Sunday. Edwards did not know the condition of any of the those involved in the accident, he said.

Ballinger represents District 97, which includes portions of Madison, Carroll and Washington counties, in the Arkansas House of Representatives.

The driver of the Focus was cited for not having a driver's license and careless and prohibited driving. Ballinger was issued a citation for having a driver's license that expired at the end of January, Edwards said. Ballinger said he hadn't realized his license had expired and planned to take care of the license today.

Edwards said glare from the sun may have contributed to the accident.
