Grable fourth in all-around, Arkansas finishes 7th

Arkansas senior Katherine Grable set a school record at the SEC Championships and finished fourth in the all-around competition with a 39.55 on Saturday as the Razorbacks finished seventh with a score of 194.900 in Birmingham, Ala.

Grable scored a 9.85 on the bars, then scored 9.90 on the beam, floor and vault as she finished among the top two on each event in the first session. Grable won the vault, beam, floor and all-around competitions in the Razorbacks’ session and finished second on the bars.

Florida’s Bridget Sloan won the all-around for the second consecutive year, scoring 39.700. Florida’s Kytra Hunter (39.650) was second and Alabama’s Kim Jacob (39.600) was third.

Grable tied for second on the beam, was fifth on the floor, sixth on the bars and tied for sixth on the vault.

Alabama edged Florida for the team title. The Crimson Tide scored 197.875 points, while Florida scored 197.700. LSU (197.325) was third, followed by Auburn (195.550), Kentucky (195.075), Arkansas and Missouri (194.650).

BASEBALL Wonder Boys rally to beat Muleriders

Chance Scamardo went 3 for 4 to help lift NCAA Division II No. 13 Arkansas Tech over No. 4 Southern Arkansas 8-5 on Saturday in Magnolia.

Southern Arkansas (24-7, 12-6 Great American Conference) took a 4-1 lead in the fifth inning before Scamardo hit an RBI single in a three-run sixth for Arkansas Tech to tie the game at 4-4. In the seventh, Keenan Jumper reached on a fielder’s choice with the bases loaded to make it 5-4, and John Lassiter hit a two-run double to make it 8-4.

Reddies sweep Rangers

AJ Kruzel hit an RBI double and drew a bases-loaded walk to help Henderson State to a 5-2 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday in Arkadelphia.

Hunter Mayall hit an RBI single in the first inning to give the Reddies a 1-0 lead but trailed 2-1 heading to the bottom of the seventh. Kruzel then hit a twoout double that scored Ashton Roberts to tie the game at 2-2. In the eighth, the Reddies (12-19, 7-11 Great American Conference) loaded the bases before Kruzel walked to make it 3-2, then Will Powell hit a two-run single.

Weevils complete sweep

Ben Agredano hit an RBI double in the fourth inning and had three hits to help Arkansas-Monticello defeat Harding 6-4 Saturday in Monticello to complete a three-game Great American Conference sweep.

Agredano’s double to right field scored D’Marco Poindexter in the middle of a four-run fourth to help the Boll Weevils (21-10, 11-7) take a 6-0 lead. Poindexter hit an RBI double earlier in the inning, while Alex Lang drove in a run with a ground out and Ray Johnson hit an RBI single.

Tyler Caruthers went 3 for 4 and scored 2 runs for the Boll Weevils, who had 13 hits. Harrison Hunter went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored for Harding (16-12, 8-7).

UAFS rallies for victory

Koby Chadick had an RBI single to start a five-run seventh inning as Arkansas-Fort Smith beat University of Texas of the Permian Basin 6-4 on Saturday in Fort Smith.

J.C. Baxley followed Chadick with an RBI single, Chadick scored on a wild pitch and Tyler Lein hit a two-run single to cap the inning for the Lions (13-12). Baxley went 2 for 4 for the Lions.

Big eighth inning lifts Ozarks

Ozarks scored seven runs in the eighth inning of an 8-6 victory over Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday in Belton, Texas.

Ozarks (8-12, 5-10 American Southwest Conference) drew three walks, had four hits, was hit by two pitches and took advantage of an error in the big eighth inning. Sam Shook and Alex Smith had two hits each for Ozarks, and Bo Thomas recorded his third victory.

SOFTBALL Ole Miss batters Arkansas

Ole Miss scored six runs off Arkansas starter Kasey Fagan, four off Sydney Wright and three off Kelsey Berlin in a 13-6 victory on Saturday in Oxford, Miss.

The Rebels (19-13, 3-5 SEC) scored four runs in the third, two in the fourth and fifth and five in the sixth inning in beating the Razorbacks (21-10, 1-4) for the second day in a row.

Arkansas took a 5-0 lead after scoring two runs in the second and three in the third, but scored only once after that. Jessica Harrison hit a home run and went 2 for 3 with 4 RBI and 1 run scored, while Devon Wallace and Stephanie Canfield each had 2 hits and 1 RBI.

Goad ties SAU record

Brooke Goad hit a home run in the seventh inning to help Southern Arkansas to a 4-2 victory in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday in Russellville. The home run was Goad’s 12th of the season, tying the school’s single-season home run record.

Shelby Miller earned her fifth save of the season in that game, breaking the school record. Southern Arkansas (17-13, 12-8 Great American Conference) beat Arkansas Tech (13-15, 5-11) 4-2 in the second game, when Audrey Farfan, Taylor Guin and Chelsea Ivy each drove in runs.

UAM, Harding split

Kimmy Hendricks went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and 1 run scored to help Harding to a 4-3 victory over Arkansas-Monticello in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday in Searcy. Kali Piha hit a grand slam during a five-run fifth inning to lead Arkansas-Monticello to a 7-1 victory in the second game.

McKenzie Rice, Sydney Tipton and Taylor Norris drove in runs for the Cotton Blossoms (18-14) in the second game.

Marley Edwards and Madison Wickline drove in runs for Harding (18-14) in the first game.
