Hill Hikers

The Ozark Hill Hikers Walking Club invites all to two March events.

The first event is a group walk of 5K or 10K in Fayetteville on Wednesday. Registration begins at 10 a.m. at the starting point at Walgreens, 524 S. School Ave. The walk will begin at 10:30 a.m. and follows a part of the Frisco Trail and passes through the downtown square, Dickson Street and the University of Arkansas campus.

The second walk is a special event 5K/10K walk in Siloam Springs on Saturday. Registration will be at Bob Henry Park Pavilion, 509 W. Benton St. in Siloam Springs. Start between 9 a.m. and noon and finish by 3 p.m. The 10K walk follows the Dogwood Springs Walking Trail, which meanders along Sager Creek and through John Brown University. The walk continues along residential streets and will cross the state borders of Arkansas and Oklahoma. The walk continues to historic downtown and returns to Bob Henry Park.

Springdale Lions

Randy Alexander, state representative District 88, will speak Wednesday to the Springdale Lions Club at Western Sizzlin in Springdale.

Democratic Women

The Washington County Democratic Women will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mermaids Restaurant in Fayetteville. Guest speaker will be David Malone, former Arkansas state senator and former mayor of Fayetteville. He will discuss his research about the late U.S. Senator Hattie Caraway of Arkansas.

The meeting is free, and the public is welcome.

Hill N Dale

The Hill N Dale Hiking Club of Bella Vista will travel to Lake Lincoln for a hike on Saturday. Members will meet at Harps upper parking lot in Bella Vista at 8 a.m. to carpool. After the hike, they will eat at Gabrieles. Nonmembers are invited.

Republican Women

The Washington County Republican Women will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday for a social time and a meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Victory Building, Skyler Center, 2576 Sunset Ave. in Springdale. Andy Mayberry, candidate for lieutenant governor, is the guest speaker.

The Bella Vista Homesteaders will meet at 11 a.m. April 1 at Concordia of Bella Vista. The presentation will be about wildflowers, presented by Bill and Emily Robertson.

Garden Club

The Bentonville Garden Club will hold its Arbor Day Celebration Friday at the lodge of the Church of Christ on Eighth Street. The program is titled "We Love Trees" and will begin at 12:30 p.m. Rita Walters, longtime garden club member, will be honored for her service to the organization, and a dogwood tree will be planted in her honor at St. Stephen Catholic Church. All are welcome.

Garden Club

The Bella Vista Garden Club will meet Wednesday at the United Lutheran Church, 100 Cooper Road in Bella Vista. A social gathering will start at 11 a.m. and will be followed by a meeting at 11:30 a.m. and lunch.

The program will be presented by Neal Mays, Benton County Extension agent for agriculture, "Five Ways to Mess Up Your Garden." Artistic design exhibit will be from Linda Neymer, club member.

Horticulture will be presented by Elaine Rooney, club member, "Elaine's Favorite Tools and Idea," with a chance to share.

Civil War Roundtable

The Northwest Arkansas Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the General Store at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History, 118 W. Johnson St. in Springdale.

Ozark Society

The Highlands Chapter of the Ozark Society will feature Fred Paillet at its meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at First United Presbyterian Church, 695 E. Calvin St. in Fayetteville.

Paillet, adjunct professor of geosciences at the University of Arkansas, will speak on "The Magic of the Rainforest: Hiking in the Tropical Wilderness of Puerto Rico, Panama and Queensland."
