Civil War grants go to five projects

The Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission has awarded $8,050 in grants for projects to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, commission Chairman Tom Dupree announced.

Awarded amounts and their recipients are:

$2,000 to the Old State House Museum, Little Rock, for a Civil War play, The Bridegroom of Blowing Rock.

$2,000 to the Ouachita County Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee for uniforms provided to a re-enactment group of the First Kansas Colored Infantry Regiment.

$2,000 to the Bill and Sharon Arnold Family Foundation, DeValls Bluff, for the fourth annual Fort Lincoln Freedom Festival.

$1,500 to the Ouachita County committee for the Occupation of Camden and Battle of Poison Spring sesquicentennial commemoration.

$550 to the Saline County Library for a seminar on the 150th anniversary of the Camden Expedition and the Battle of Jenkins’ Ferry.

Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission grants of up to $2,000 each are awarded four times per year, as funding is available. The deadline to apply for the next round of grants is May 16.
