New deadline given

for Clinton papers

WASHINGTON - No new records from the Clinton White House will be released this week, the National Archives announced Thursday.

An archives news release also states that the White House gave archivists an extra month to review 25,000 documents that became eligible for release under federal law a year ago. The new deadline is April 26, according to the release. It did not state when the next batch of records would become public.

Under the Presidential Records Act of 1978, presidents can seal some records for 12 years after they leave office. Clinton’s last day in office was Jan. 20, 2001.

In February, Politico reported that 33,000 pages of records had not been made public in January 2013 when that restriction on their release expired.

About 8,000 pages of records have been released in the last three weeks.

Many of those records detail advice given to then-President Bill Clinton and first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton by top aides. The documents are available online at clintonlibrary.gov/formerlywithhelddocuments.html.

Archives officials said that only 4 percent of the Clinton White House papers have been prepared for release thus far.

Among other things, archivists are sorting through about 78 million pages of records and 20 million emails.

Man gets 15 years for planning attack

BOLIVAR, Mo. - A southwest Missouri man accused of planning shooting attacks at a movie theater and a Wal-Mart has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

The Springfield News-Leader reported that Blaec Lammers, 21, was sentenced to 15 years on each charge Thursday, with the terms to run concurrently.

Authorities said Lammers told them he originally planned to open fire on the opening-night crowd for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 at a Bolivar theater in November 2012. He opted for the Wal-Mart because he could get more ammunition there.

Lammers was arrested after his mother told police he had gone off his medication for mental-health conditions and that she feared he was planning an attack. No shots were ever fired.
