Fayetteville Scooter Driver Injured In Hit-and-Run

FAYETTEVILLE -- Police are searching for suspects after the driver of a scooter was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center following a hit-and-run collision late Thursday.

Tisinqua King, 20, suffered a fractured skull and abrasions to her legs after a dark-colored Nissan cut her off on West Wedington Drive shortly before midnight, according to a police accident report. King wasn't wearing a helmet.

She was well enough to talk to police afterward, and the injuries aren't expected to be life-threatening, Sgt. Craig Stout said.

King was going west on Wedington when the Nissan turned onto Wedington from North Steamboat Drive in front of her, according to the report. King was flung from her scooter, hitting her head.

A witness told police the vehicle's female driver and male passenger got out of their car. The man told the woman to get back in the car and both fled the scene, according to the report.

Officers quickly began searching nearby for a black Nissan with front-end damage, Stout said.

"It's always safer to drive with (a helmet)," he added. "You can really mess yourself up on something like that."
