Robber gets term exceeding 27 years

A Michigan man was sentenced in federal court Thursday to 27 years and five months after pleading guilty to robbing a Dickson Street jewelry store in Fayetteville of more than $300,000 worth of jewelry, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.

Jason Stallcup, 42, also was ordered by U.S. District Judge Timothy L. Brooks to pay more than $173,000 restitution, a news release from the U.S. attorney’s office said.

Stallcup pleaded guilty in October in federal court in Fayetteville to one count of robbing the Romance Diamond Co. on Dec. 5, 2008, and one count of using a gun in the robbery.

According to court documents, Stallcup entered the store posing as a shopper soon after it opened. He pulled a .22-caliber pistol from a shopping bag and forced two female employees to fill it with jewelry, including diamonds, bracelets, earrings and watches.

Before fleeing the store, according to the news release, Stallcup used zip ties to bind the hands and feet of the two female employees and a male customer who entered the store during the robbery.

At the time of his arrest in Michigan, the news release said, Stallcup still had the pistol and the zip ties that matched those used in the Fayetteville robbery.

He was transferred to Arkansas over the summer from Michigan, where he was serving a 15-year prison sentence on unrelated charges.
