Police: Unknown man tried to pick child up from school

Police are investigating an incident in which an unknown man tried to pick up a 6-year-old girl from George Elementary School in Springdale, according to a news release.

The man had the girl's name but did not have the proper documents, so school employees had him pull forward until he could provide proper identification. The man pulled forward, then drove away when a family friend with the proper documents arrived to pick up the girl.

The girl's family and friends said they didn't know who the man could be.

He was described as being in his 20s or 30s with short blond or brown hair, a scruffy beard and tattoos on his neck, chest and arms. He was driving a white Pontiac Grand Prix from the late 80s or early 90s described as "beat up", according to the news release.

Police ask anyone with information to call 479-751-4542 or the tip line at 479-750-4484.
