Lake Fort Smith State Park in Mountainburg will host a weekend dedicated to “cold-blooded critters” today, Saturday and Sunday. The event will celebrate frogs, snakes and turtles, according to a park news release.
Events begin with a turtle topography program at 4 p.m. today. The Spring Peeper Hike is scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight.
A program on snake safety and awareness is set for 12:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by Reptile Mania from 1-3 p.m. Snake enthusiasts Brad Birchfield and Jeremy Sloan will discuss native venomous and non-venomous snakes.
Frogs Abound begins at 3 p.m. Saturday. The free program will focus on the diverse species of frogs that inhabit the park.
A critter crunch featuring local reptiles will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the park. Events are free and open to the public.
