BENTONVILLE -- Amanda Agana lost one of her fiercest competitors and biggest supporters last year when Maggie Montoya graduated from Rogers High and went to Baylor.

The Fayetteville senior still had her friend on her mind as she ran the 800-meters during the Tiger Relays, and she was shocked to learn that she broke Montoya's record in that event Thursday night. Agana finished with a time of 2 minutes, 15.87 seconds, breaking Montoya's mark of 2:16.39 set in 2012.

x-denotes athlete who placed in event but didn’t figure in team scoring

"I thought about Maggie as I was running," Agana said. "She pushed me, she encouraged me and she was always there to tell me to believe in myself. I took her words to heart.

"I wanted to run good, give it my all and leave it all on the track. But I will text Maggie after this and say 'Hey, I broke your record.' I know she will be supportive and say 'good job.'"

Agana's feat was one of four girls meet records to be broken during the meet. Bentonville's Isabel Neal broke the pole vault mark when she cleared 11 feet, 6 inches and broke the previous mark of 10-7, and Springdale Har-Ber's Payton Stumbaugh broke the 100 hurdles mark with her time of 14.88 seconds, eclipsing the 15.34 set by Bentonville's Logan Morton last year.

It was one of three first-place finishes for Stumbaugh, who also won the 100 (12.60) and the long jump (17-0.75). She also won the high point honors with 39 points after finishing fourth in the discus and fifth in the shot put.

Meanwhile, Bentonville senior Jody Knight had completed the 200 and was on the bench when it was announced she broke the meet record with a time of 25.70, breaking the previous mark of 25.84 set by Manasha Bell of Fort Smith Northside in 2011. Moments later, the Georgetown signee was almost knocked to the ground while being congratulated by teammate Alexis Rolle.

"I didn't see it coming," Knight said. "I was taking my shoe off and didn't have a hand on the bench when she hit me. It happened pretty quick.

"It's good because I was definitely going for that. I have school records, but I wanted to have a meet record before I graduated, so I'm happy about it. The wind didn't make things work right, but it's still early."

Bentonville again dominated the team titles. Bentonville's girls won seven of the 17 events and finished with 224 points while Har-Ber was a distant second with 94, followed by Fort Smith Southside with 83.

In the boys division, Bentonville didn't break any records, but put together a dominating performance. The Tigers scored 171 points, followed by Rogers Heritage with 83 and Fayetteville with 76.5.

"We're always proud to host a meet and proud to win our home meet," Bentonville coach Mike Power said. "It's always something we pinpoint on our schedule, get everybody on the team a race and hopefully finish with a victory.

"I think we scored in every event, which shows our depth. We had a couple guys come back from an injury, which was good, and we had our seniors, which were performing in their last home meet. It's good to see them perform."

Tyrone Mahone led Bentonville's boys with his victory in the 200 (22.85), then helped the Tigers win two of the three relays events. Hunter Smithpeters was also a part of a winning 4x400 relay team and also won the 400 in 50.03 seconds.
