FAYETTEVILLE -- Police made an arrest eight days after shots rang out in a west Fayetteville neighborhood.

Delvin Salley, 21, of 741 Morningside Drive was arrested Wednesday evening in connection with engaging in violent criminal group activity and marijuana possession. He was being held without bond Thursday in the Washington County Detention Center.

Investigators have been searching for at least two men after gunshots were fired about 7:30 p.m. March 11 near the intersection of North Chickadee Avenue and West Bluebird Street. The neighborhood of one-story duplexes sits just north of West Wedington Drive near Interstate 540.

No one was injured in the incident.

Calls from several witnesses painted a confused picture, according to police records. Children were playing in the street when investigators believe at least two men fired at least twice. Some residents later said at least one of the men appeared to be chasing another.

Multiple .45-caliber shell casings were found in the area, according to police.

Detectives have been interviewing witnesses and checking out reports of suspect vehicles in the neighborhood, Sgt. Craig Stout said.

Salley was named by several witnesses, according to a probable cause report. Salley refused to talk about the Chickadee incident with detectives, according to the report.

Police are seeking at least one other person, Stout said.

"At this point we don't have anything to link it to anything like a gang-related incident," he added. "Anyone with any information about this, we urge them to contact us."
