Corner Coffee Shop

Jammin Java just a few steps away...

Brandon Karn wasn't exactly looking for an additional Jammin Java location. But there was a space open, and that space was looking for a coffee shop tenant. And when an architect friend of his suggested a pairing between Jammin Java and the student-focused Sterling Frisco apartments would be a good one, he went with it.

Jammin Java's newest location opened earlier this year on the ground floor of the Sterling Frisco building, which occupies a heavily trafficked area at the intersection of West Avenue and Lafayette Street in Fayetteville.

Jammin Java first opened in 2002 inside the Old Post Office building on the Fayetteville square. It later moved to a narrow storefront on the south side of the square, and it's been there since 2004. Other locations have opened in the years that have followed.

The newest Jammin Java operates much like many of the other locations, but it has its quirks, too. Unlike other locations, the Sterling Frisco spot does not sell alcohol. It does sell a few grocery items such as milk and toilet paper as a way to draw in the many students who live in the adjacent complex.

As for the food and coffee, much is the same, Karn says.

Top sellers in the morning include the breakfast burrito, which comes with a choice of hickory turkey, maple ham, bacon or sausage in a spinach tortilla that's also stuffed with egg, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions and potatoes ($6.75); the breakfast bowl, with layers of many of those same ingredients and gravy on a biscuit ($7); and the Hog Heaven biscuit, with ham, sausage, bacon, egg and American cheese ($6.) A la carte items such as muffins ($2.50) and bagels ($1.95) are also available.

After breakfast, popular picks include the Albuquerque Turkey, a sandwich of hickory turkey, swiss, tomato, avocado, organic greens and mayonnaise ($8). Other highlights include the Dixie Chicken salad wrap with house-made chicken salad and organic greens in a spinach tortilla ($7.25) and the Flaming Rooster wrap, with grilled chicken, cheddar cheese, tomatoes, greens, olives and spicy ranch dressing ($7.75). Sandwiches can also be assembled from a selection of Boar's Head meats and cheeses and breads from Fayetteville's Stonemill Bread and Flour Co.

Also popular -- particularly with the college crowd -- are the made-to-order macaroni and cheese plates, each made with at least three cheeses ($8). Add-ons such as mushrooms, ranch dressing or grilled meats can spice up the macaroni dish.

Jammin Java offers a full line of catering services. In the near future, the business will also offer a direct-to-the-room delivery service for Sterling Frisco residents.
