Thieves Target West Fayetteville Vehicles

— Police are investigating reports of three vehicle break-ins in two days on one street.

The break-ins were reported Monday and Tuesday along West Chevaux Drive, west of West Wedington Drive and Interstate 540, according to police records. Electronics, at least one credit card and other small valuables were reported stolen, Sgt. Craig Stout said.

Clusters of break-ins are fairly typical, he said.

"They get one, they usually get multiple," Stout said. "They'll just have a group walking down the street probably checking for open doors."

About four out of every five vehicle break-ins involve unlocked cars, he added.

"We try to stress as often as we can to lock your doors," Stout said.

The break-ins were among more than a dozen other thefts and burglaries around town in the same time period. Some, including stolen electronics on West Wildflower Street and on West Anne Street, were in the same area as Chevaux.

Property crime is Fayetteville's biggest issue and incidents are often concentrated in this way, Stout said.
