Rogers Planning Commissioners Approve Plan To Expand First Baptist Church

— Planning commissioners approved a plan Tuesday for expanding the First Baptist Church.

Membership at the church, 3364 W. Pleasant Grove Road, has grown 20 percent in the past year, church officials said, and more classroom space is needed.

The two-story, 19,561-square-foot expansion will be added to the 83,650-square-foot church. One level will be devoted to classrooms, said Jerry Medlin, church business administrator. The second level will include administrative offices and a large multipurpose room that can be used for meetings and by the kindergarten through sixth grade school at the church.

At the request of staff planners, commissioners also approved a usage change for highway commercial zoning. Alcoholic distilleries are allowed in industrial zones. Commissioners approved allowing distilleries in highway commercial zones as a conditional-use.

There was discussion regarding the safety of distilleries, but commissioners agreed any such questions would be addressed when a plan was filed for a distillery.

The Planning Commission also approved:

• Rezoning 6028 Stoney Brook Road from agricultural to a neighborhood commercial zone.

• Plan for Rainbow Honda, 1050 W. Hudson Road, to move its motorcycle dealership to Rogers from Bentonville.

• A permit to build a parking lot at the northwest corner of 11th and Poplar streets.

• A lot split at Rainbow and Course roads requested by Steve Furner.

• A request from James and Barbara Wilson for a lot split at 5151 Garrett Road.

• A request to operate a concession trailer at 718 N. Second St.
