Meeting Set To Review Interstate Interchange Plans In Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE -- The public is invited to an open house Thursday to review plans for Interstate 540 interchanges at Wedington Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The meeting is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. at Asbell Elementary School cafeteria, 1500 N. Sang Ave., according to a news release.

Project engineers will be available to answer questions.

A Wedington Corridor Plan approved by the City Council in March 2013 suggested a three-lane roundabout west of the Wedington Drive overpass. Preliminary Highway Department designs didn't include the roundabout. They showed an overpass with up to 10 lanes and a "jug handle" on-ramp to northbound I-540.

Members of the city's Active Transportation Advisory Committee and Parks and Recreation Advisory Board have discussed leaving space for a pedestrian trail for the King Boulevard interchange.

The Wedington Drive and King Boulevard interchanges are two of nine in Northwest Arkansas to be improved using state sales taxes, local matches and federal money.

Those unable to attend Thursday's meeting can contact Ruby Jordan-Johnson at 501-569-2379 or [email protected].
