Fire causes scare at Rogers business

A small fire outside a Rogers business caused a scare when it began to catch inside the wall of the building at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Employees stood outside and watched Rogers firefighters tear down part of a wall and put out a fire at Romona Munsell & Associates, located at 5208 Parkway Village, suite 1. The fire started in a pile of twigs piled in the concrete corner outside of the building beside patio furniture, said Jim Hixon, Munsell maintenance man. The fire appeared to have been built overnight, he said.

On Wednesday morning, Hixon saw smoke coming through an outlet and found the interior wall was hot to the touch.

“If it had more time, it probably would have taken off,” Hixon said. “It was kind of contained in the wall.”

The fire department considers the incident an accidental fire, Battalion Chief Cliff Thompson said. The situation was under control in about 5 minutes once firefighters arrived on scene, according to a fire department report.

Damages to the commercial property are estimated at about $20,000, according to the department.
