Police arrested a Springdale man shortly after a store was robbed in Springdale on Saturday evening, Lt. Frank Gamble said Sunday.

Police said Arturo Sainz, 32, of 348 Blue Stem St., walked into Tobacco Superstore, 1001 S. Thompson St., at about 5 p.m. Saturday and used a pellet handgun to hold up the clerk. Sainz took an unknown amount of money, Gamble said.

Witnesses told police a man wearing a black ski mask and dark-colored gloves held up the clerk before fleeing. Police arrived in time to see Sainz leave, pull him over on a traffic stop and find the gun, Gamble said.

Sainz was arrested in connection with aggravated robbery, terroristic threatening and parole violation. He was being held Sunday at the Washington County Detention Center on a $3,500 bond.

Gamble said the case is under investigation. Detectives are reviewing video of the incident, he said.
