Pageant winners headed for state competition...

Contestants for the Miss Arkansas Scholarship Pageant to be held June 15-21 in Hot Springs were selected to represent Northwest Arkansas at the Miss Lakes of the Northwest and Miss Frisco Springs Pageants held last weekend at the Victory Theater in Rogers.

Hannah Gibson of Bentonville was crowned Miss Lakes of the Northwest 2014 while Samantha Hudon of Hot Springs was selected as Miss Frisco Springs 2014.

Gibson is a journalism and art history major at the University of Arkansas. Her talent presentation was a vocal and guitar solo to Adele's "Rolling in the Deep." She promotes "From Our House to Yours: Family and Individual Homelessness Prevention and Awareness" as her critical issue.

Gibson was awarded the preliminary Presence and Poise in Evening Gown Award and the Beth Gray Artistic Expression in Talent Award.

Hudon is a broadcast journalism major at University of Central Arkansas. For her talent she presented a vocal solo ""Can't Help Loving that Man of Mine" from "Showboat" and advocates "Get UP! Get MOVING! Encouraging Youth to Become More Physically Active" as her critical issue.

Hudon was named as the preliminary Artistic Expression in Talent Award, Presence and Poise in Evening Gown Award and the Lifestyle and Fitness in Swimsuit Award winner.

The pageant highlighted the platforms of all the contestants starting a "revolution" and featured musical numbers from the revolutionary Rogers Little Theater production "Les Miserables."

The Miss Arkansas Scholarship Pageant is a state preliminary to the Miss America Pageant, part of a not-for-profit organization that has maintained a tradition for many decades of empowering American women to achieve their personal and professional goals while providing a forum in which to express their opinions, talent and intelligence. It is the world's largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women, with more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance made available last year.

In addition, contestants were also selected to represent this area in the Miss Arkansas' Outstanding Teen Pageant to be held June 10-14 at The Center for the Arts in Russellville.

Bethany Miller of Fayetteville was selected Miss Lakes of the Northwest Outstanding Teen, and Kavanaugh Millirons of Conway was names Miss Frisco Springs Outstanding Teen.

Miller is a student at Fayetteville High School and advocates "Dance for your Heart." Her talent was a jazz dance to "Brave."

Millirons is a student at Conway High School and presented "Not for the Life of Me" from "Thoroughly Modern Millie." Her critical issue is "Pool Safely: Simple Steps Saves Lives."

Miss Arkansas' Outstanding Teen Pageant is a state preliminary to the Miss America's Outstanding Teen Pageant.
