SPRINGDALE -- Brandon Workman didn't want to waste too much time and energy on field events Thursday.

The Rogers High senior really didn't have to do it, either. He made the most of minimal jumps and won the triple jump and the long jump during the Springdale Schools Invitational at Har-Ber's Ronnie Bradshaw Track.

Workman lept 46 feet, 8 inches on his first attempt at the triple jump and did no more, winning that event by more than 2 feet. He made two tries at the long jump and finished with a winning leap of 22-7, defeating second-place finisher Daniel Spickes of Rogers Heritage by 6 1/2 inches.

"That was the plan going in," Workman said. "I wanted to get in some good jumps early and try to pre-qualify for state in those events. I wasn't at my best during the state indoor meet, so I spent the last few weeks working a few things.

"I was surprised I went that far in the triple jump. I knew it was a far jump, but I didn't know it was going to be that far. I know I was capable of doing something like that, and it was nice to see the hard work that I've been putting in paying off."

Workman also came away with high-point honors in the boys division with 30 points. He finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.11 seconds, then helped Rogers finish second in the 4x100 relay.

Bentonville came away with the boys title, finishing with 177 points to Rogers' 112.5. Keson Payton turned in one of the more impressive finishes, winning the 100 in 10.98 seconds, while the Tigers also picked up wins from Jose Ramirez in the 400 (51.28), Ryan Graziani in the 800 (2 minutes, 1.32 seconds), Jordan Patrick in the 110 hurdles (16.04), Leo Wotzak in the pole vault (12-10) and the 4x100 relay team of Payton, Tyrone Mahone, Colter Clemence and Dylan Little (43.49).

"We had a really good day," Bentonville coach Mike Power said. "We had a lot of personal-bests, and that is our goal every week -- to get a personal-best from every person we can. That shows everybody's improving at their own event.

"Keson may have stood out the most. To break 11 in the 100 is rare for our team, so that was probably the highlight. We're pointing in the right direction, and it's good to see results in the competitions."

Bentonville's girls continued to rely on their depth to turn in a dominating performance and win their division. The Lady Tigers finished with 225 points, while Har-Ber was a distant second with 148.

Logan Morton edged Har-Ber's Payton Stumbaugh by a 31-30 margin to take the girls high-point honors. Morton captured the triple jump (36-1), then helped Bentonville win the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, while finishing second in the 100 and 300 hurdles to Stumbaugh, who won her third event by taking the 200 (24.20).

The Lady Tigers' other individual victories came from Victoria Mitchell in the 800 (2:20.01) and the 4x800 relay team of Mitchell, Katie Kotoucek, Sophie Quandt and Emily Davis (10:13.74).

"We had a little bit of everything, which we usually do," Bentonville coach Randy Ramaker said. "I'm pretty happy with a lot of things, and there are still a lot of things to work on.

"Meets like this, you just want to have fun with because it gives everybody a chance to do something. We also want to do well in our home meet, so this is a good way to practice before that happens."
