A man was transported by helicopter to the Washington Regional Medical Center after his Mack paint-striping truck overturned near Elkins late Friday morning.

The accident happened on Huntsville Road, just east of the White River bridge between Fayetteville and Elkins.

Traffic in both directions was blocked for several hours as emergency responders worked to remove Terry Moore, 42, of Greenwood from the wreckage and to clean up paint that spilled from the truck. By the early afternoon authorities had opened up one lane, alternating traffic in both directions.

Moore apparently didn't turn quickly enough at a bend in the road, flipping the truck into a nearby ditch, said Sgt. Craig Stout with Fayetteville Police. Moore was trapped for more than an hour in cold water and mud and sustained a large laceration to the forehead, Stout said.

"Laying there in that cold water for a while is obviously an issue," he said.

A hazardous materials clean-up team was sent to the scene and was working Friday afternoon to contain the paint before removing the truck, Stout added.
