Prescribed Burns Planned Today In Fayetteville

— Two burns are scheduled this morning near the city's two sewer plants.

Residents should expect to see smoke in the areas around the Noland Wastewater Treatment Facility, 1500 N. Fox Hunter Road, and the West Side Wastewater Treatment Facility, 15 S. Broyles Ave.

The burns are planned to start about 9 a.m., depending on weather, according to a city news release.

The burns are intended to control fast-growing woody vegetation and encourage the growth of a diverse variety of plant species.

The public is welcome to attend the burns, but bystanders will be required to stay behind fire containment lines. Area firefighters will be on standby to assist if needed.

For more information, call Jeff Hickle, special projects assistant for CH2M Hill, the company that operates the sewer plants, at 479-445-5676.
