Benton County man acquitted of charges in shooting of cousin

A Benton County man was acquitted of charges in connection with shooting his cousin.

Royce Webb, 57, was charged with battery in the first degree, a Class B felony, which is punishable with a prison sentence ranging from five to 20 years.

Webb is accused of shooting Mitchell Webb with a shotgun.

He was committed in June 2013 to the Arkansas State Hospital after he was found not fit to stand trial.

Webb's case was on Circuit Judge Robin Green's criminal docket Wednesday and Webb was acquitted of the charges due to having a mental disease or defect.

Webb was arrested Aug. 30, 2011.

Mitchell Webb was treated for the wound and released from Northwest Medical Center-Bentonville, according to court documents. Mitchell Webb was working on a bulldozer on a dirt road when he was shot, according to court documents.

Webb will now be in a program monitored and supervised by the Arkansas Department of Human Services, according to Stuart Cearley, chief deputy prosecutor.
