Agencies Investigate Eagle Killing

Raptor Shot In Logan County

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission are investigating the killing of a mature bald eagle in the Mount Magazine area of Logan County near the Midway community.

The bald eagle was discovered on the Mount Magazine Wildlife Management Area close to Shoal Creek Road. Both of the eagle's talons were cut off. The investigation revealed the bald eagle was killed between Jan. 20-30.

A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, The Humane Society of the United States and the Humane Society Wildlife Land Trust for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible for the killing.

Bald eagles are protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, both federal and state wildlife statutes. Violations of these statutes carry maximum criminal penalties of up to $100,000 and one year in federal prison.
