GIRLS

HAR-BER WINS TWO

Springdale Har-Ber won two games in the Fort Smith Southside Invitational.

The Lady Wildcats opened with a 4-0 victory over Hot Springs Lakeside. Adeline Williams scored two goals while Henrietta Aamas and Elise Reina added a goal apiece. Vanessa Reynoso and Amanda Aristondo provided assists.

Har-Ber followed with a 2-0 victory over Fayetteville. Williams scored on a penalty kick before Evie Cannon added a second goal with an assist from Makayla Wilson.

BOYS

BENTONVILLE WINS FORT SMITH INVITATIONAL

Bentonville used a 4-2 advantage in an overtime shootout Saturday night to defeat Fort Smith Northside and win the Fort Smith Invitational Tournament.

The two teams battled to a 1-1 tie through regulation, with Josh Hillebrand accounting for Bentonville’s goal. Hillebrand also scored in the shootout, as well as Josh Hoard, Zach Estrada and Eric Johnson.

Bentonville (3-0) advanced to the championship match with an earlier 2-1 victory over Fayetteville.

HAR-BER PLACES THIRD

Springdale Har-Ber won two of three games to fi nish third in the Bishop Kelley Invitational at Tulsa.

Har-Ber beat the host team 3-2 before losing in the semifinals to East Central 3-1. East Central broke a 1-1 tie by scoring two goals in the fi nal two minutes. Har-Ber (3-1) recovered to win the thirdplace game with a 4-0 victory over Deer Creek.

SHILOH GOES 2-0 IN TOURNAMENT

The defending Class 5A state champion Shiloh Lady Saints opened their season with a pair of wins in the Shiloh Invitational on Saturday.

The Lady Saints (2-0) opened tournament play with an 8-1 blowout win over Eureka Springs. Caroline Bandy scored three goals and Taylor Michaelis added two. Also scoring goals were Kaylee Cochran, Bethany Cobb and Abby Hutton.

Shiloh Christian downed Gentry 3-1 as Cochran, Michaelis and Bandy each scored goals for the Lady Saints.

PREP SOFTBALL

FAYETTEVILLE WINS THREE AT TOURNEY

Maggie Mabry picked up two wins in the circle and Stephanie Hughes provided plenty of oftense at the plate as Fayetteville finished the second day of the Clarksville Tournament with three wins in four games on Saturday.

The Lady Bulldogs defeated Clarksville, 10-3, behind a 3-run home run from Hughes and three innings on the mound from Mabry. Fayetteville (3-2) then followed with a 3-2 win over Alma, as senior Cortnye Pool (1-1) allowed just one earned run in fi ve innings.

In a matchup of 7A/6AWest Conference foes, Fayetteville then defeated Springdale High, 4-3, with Mabry (2-0) again picking up with win after tossing four innings with allowing an earned run.

Fayetteville dropped its final game of the tournament, a 6-3 loss to Booneville.

LADY RED’DOGS GO 1-2 IN CLARKSVILLE

Springdale High started the season 1-2 on Saturday in the Clarksville Tournament, beating Prairie Grove 3-1 before losing 2-0 to Ozark and 4-3 to Fayetteville.

The Lady Bulldogs (1-2) got a big lift against Prairie Grove when senior third baseman Kelcee Thompson hit a long two-run home run over the left field scoreboard in the third inning to snap a tie and give Springdale the win in its fi rst game.

Springdale will host Harrison on Thursday.

BOGLE SHINES FOR HAR-BER

Gracie Bogle pitched four scoreless inning and hit a three-run home to lead Springdale Har-Ber to a 10-0 victory over Gravette on Saturday. The game was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

Har-Ber finished with 13 hits. The Lady Wildcats will play in the Benton Tournament beginning Friday.

SPORTS CALENDAR

BASEBALL

Bentonville Youth Baseball registration for the spring 2014 season is under way. The league is open to any player living in the Bentonville School District who is at least age 4 on April 30, 2014, but not older than 16 on April 30, 2014. Registration closed in mid-February for players ages 8 and older. Registration for players age 7 and younger continues into March. NWA Senior Babe Ruth coaches meeting will be held March 26 for those interested in coaching in the 2014 Senior Babe Ruth season. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. in Springdale at the CED offi ce, 1102 Sterwin St. For more information, contact David DeBoard at 966-1063 or dcd0420@yahoo.

BASKETBALL

Bentonville High School will host its TiPs (Tigers in Progress) basketball minicamp March 17 in Tiger Arena. The camp is for boys and girls in kindergarten through sixth grade and will run from 6-8 p.m. both days with players and coaches from Bentonville’s girls basketball team offering instruction. A Northwest Arkansas team is looking for players in grades 1-4 for boys and girls. Focus will be on player development and skill building. Games will be played in NWA, the River Valley, Oklahoma and Missouri. Also looking for players in grades 8-12 boys and girls whose goal is to play college basketball. FENCING

Northwest Arkansas Fencing will hold registration for March Introductory Fencing Classes. March classes will run Monday and Wednesday, starting March 3. Classes are from 6 to 7 p.m. and run for three weeks (six classes). A new class for girls only, Little Musketeers, is forming for ages 6-9. Classes run 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. FOOTBALL

Rogers High and Rogers Heritage football coaching staffs are offering training sessions for Rogers Activities Center football coaches. People interested in coaching should attend at least three clinics. The clinic at Rogers High will be March 12 (defense), March 19 (both) from 6-7:30 p.m. at the fi eldhouse. The clinic at Rogers Heritage will be March 13, 20 (defense), March 27 (all). Prospective coaches are encouraged to attend the clinic where their child will attend, but they may attend others. Coaches should sign in and report attendance to Cindy Glynn at cglynn@rogersark. org.

GOLF

The Bella Vista Women’s Five-Hole Golf Association is now accepting members for the 2014 season. Kickoff brunch is March 31 at United Lutheran Church, 100 Cooper Road, Bella Vista. Registration is at 10 a.m. and brunch at 10:30 a.m. The cost of brunch is $10, and annual dues are $12. Applications are available at www.bv5wga@gmail. com. All POA members are welcome. The Bella Vista Women’s Nine-Hole Golf Club is currently seeking new members for the 2014 season. Membership dues are $25 for the season, which runs April 7 to October. Play is Monday mornings at either Berksdale or Kingswood golf courses. The season will start with a welcoming brunch March 24 at Riordan Hall. For more information, call 366-5554. The First Tee of Northwest Arkansas is now accepting 2014 annual registrations for youth ages 7 to 18. The $30 registration fee provides access to registration for the seven monthly sessions of programming and 16 weeks of summer golf camp, discounted participant fees at the Tyson First Tee Learning Center and ability to participate in the “Get Them Playing” program (discounted greens fees at local golf courses).
